Pickleball Score Tracker
Track pickleball scores for singles and doubles. Follows official USAPA rules including server number and side-out logic.
What this calculates
Pickleball scoring confuses newcomers because only the serving team can score, and doubles announces three numbers (us-them-server). This tracker handles the rules: serves, side-outs, server switches, and game-to-11. Track casual games or follow USAPA tournament rules without the math headache.
Formula & how it works
Singles: server scores on win; side-out on loss; first to 11 (win by 2). Doubles: 3-number score (server team — receiving team — server #). Both partners serve before side-out. Tournament games to 11 (or 15/21). Serve from right when team score is even; left when odd.
Worked example
Doubles game, score '7-4-2': serving team has 7, receiving team has 4, this is the 2nd server (partner missed). Server position: right side because 7 is odd→left, wait actually 7 is odd so left side. Common rookie confusion: forgetting which side to serve from based on your team's score.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the score 3 numbers in doubles?
Tracks which server is up. After the first server's partner sides out (loses serve), it becomes 'server 2'. After server 2 loses, side-out to other team. The third number reminds everyone where you are in the rotation.
What's the kitchen?
Non-volley zone — 7-foot area in front of the net. You can't volley (hit ball in the air) while standing in it or with momentum carrying you in. Common fault.
Win by 2?
Yes. Game to 11 but must win by 2. Many tournament games extend to 13, 15, or beyond. Tournament finals sometimes go to 15 or 21 by rule.
What's a 'side-out'?
Loss of serve. Happens when receiving team wins the rally. In doubles, after both partners serve and lose, side-out to other team.
