What this calculates

Many contracts, shipping estimates, and project timelines are expressed in business days — Monday through Friday excluding weekends. This calculator counts the business days between two dates, or adds a number of business days to a start date to find the result. Holidays vary by country and aren't deducted automatically.

Formula & how it works

Walk day-by-day from start to end, counting only days where day-of-week is Mon (1) through Fri (5). For 'add N business days': step forward day-by-day, decrementing N only on weekdays, until N reaches 0. Roughly: 5 business days = 1 calendar week; 22 business days ≈ 1 calendar month.

Worked example

From 2026-05-01 (Friday) to 2026-05-31 (Sunday). Total days: 30. Weekdays: 22. So 22 business days. Adding 10 business days to 2026-05-15 (Friday): skip Sat/Sun, add 10 working days → land on 2026-05-29 (Friday two weeks later).

Frequently asked questions

Does this account for holidays?

No. Public holidays vary by country, state, and even religion. Common US federal holidays: New Year's, MLK, Presidents', Memorial, Independence, Labor, Columbus, Veterans, Thanksgiving, Christmas — subtract manually if relevant.

What about Saturdays in some industries?

Some industries (retail, hospitality) consider Saturday a business day. Government and finance typically don't. Pick the convention that matches your situation.

How do shipping providers count?

FedEx and UPS exclude weekends and observed holidays from 'business day' estimates. USPS includes Saturday for some services. Check the specific carrier's policy.

Is 30 days the same as a month?

No. '30 days from now' is a strict 30-day calendar count. 'One month from now' is the same day next month, which can be 28, 29, 30, or 31 calendar days. Both differ from 30 business days (~6 weeks).
